Álex Baena has turned down a lucrative offer from Arabia. The player has said 'no' to Al-Ahli's millions, the club that once signed Gabri Veiga, and will continue at Villarreal CF at least until the end of the season. The Arab team was willing to pay nearly 60 million of his buy-out clause, but Álex has chosen to stay.

There are several reasons why the midfielder, the top assist provider in the 5 major leagues in 2024, rejected this millionaire offer. The main one is that Villarreal CF is the club of his heart, and he knew that if he left in January, he would be leaving a big void in the institution. In addition, the player wanted to honor the agreement he made with Fernando Roig before the winter transfer market started.

The club and Álex agreed that in January he would not leave the team, or at least would not force his exit by seeking offers and negotiations. He gladly accepted, as he understood that in the summer of 2025, if a 'Top 10' world club showed interest in him, it would be logical to support his move to a new stage, as long as the club paid a significant amount, although not necessarily the buy-out clause.
