After being registered in LaLiga on August 27 as a transfer from RB Leipzig, Olmo would theoretically be free. According to multiple reports, the lack of extension in the registration implies the dissolution of the player's contract with the azulgrana if the player decides so. In the contract signed until June 2030, Dani Olmo included a clause that makes him a free player if Barça was unable to register him due to financial fair play issues. Not only that. Barça would have to pay him the full contract until 2030, which would mean the end of Laporta's tenure as Barça's president for obvious reasons.
From now on, an absolutely unexpected scenario unfolds. The next Barça matches (one in the Copa and the Supercopa) fall under the jurisdiction of the Spanish Football Federation and Barça has directly requested, through an official statement, a new license for Olmo (and Pau Víctor, also involved although without a direct exit clause). There would be questions to answer, such as whether the azulgrana club will dare to field Olmo (if the player has not already left because he is 'theoretically' free) in those matches.
