Another setback for Baraja's team. Maximiliano Caufriez didn't participate in training with his teammates and is awaiting medical tests to determine the extent of his injury. The Belgian center-back felt discomfort in the sole of his foot once again, an area that has been causing him problems since the beginning of the week. Caufriez started in Valencia's last match against Getafe, playing the full ninety minutes and causing the penalty that led to the equalizer for the 'azulón' team in the final moments of the game. With his absence, Baraja only has Mosquera, Yarek, and Tárrega as available center-backs from the first team.

Although he hadn't had many opportunities until now, the Belgian defender made his debut in the friendly against Mexico and later was part of the three-center-back line alongside Mosquera and Tárrega in the system used by Baraja at the Coliseum, leaving Yarek on the bench.
