The Athletic is heading into the final stretch of preparations for the derby. After Wednesday's session, there will only be two more training sessions before Sunday's match against Real Sociedad, as Thursday will be a rest day. Wednesday morning at Lezama brought good news for Valverde: the coach recovers his top scorer in LaLiga (Sancet, 4 goals) and his main assistant (Berenguer, 4 assists).

However, both players have trained with caution and under the supervision of the re-adaptation staff. They were the first to take the field to do preventive exercises under the direction of Xabier Clemente. The fitness coach also supervised subsequent routines with the two players. They should be available for the derby, with one of them possibly starting.

On the other hand, the three absolute international players of the squad have already joined Ernesto Valverde's orders: Nico Williams and the center-backs Dani Vivian and Aitor Paredes, after finishing their concentration with Luis de la Fuente's Spanish national team. The young academy player Mikel Jauregizar has also joined the group, making his debut on Tuesday with the U-21 national team in the friendly match against Denmark in Albacete, playing a few minutes in the second half.

While Nico and Paredes have stayed in the gym, Vivian has trained normally with his teammates, including Iñaki Williams, who is now recovered from the left leg overload that prevented him from playing the league match in Valladolid and participating in the international window with Ghana. Unai Simón also seems close to receiving medical clearance after the surgery on his right wrist he underwent four months ago.
