It's been almost two months since Barça suffered a serious setback in the goal. Marc-André Ter Stegen had to be carried off on a stretcher during the match against Villarreal at the Estadio de la Cerámica. The German goalkeeper suffered a severe injury to his right knee that will keep him away from the pitch for several months.

Faced with this situation, Barça reacted swiftly, giving more responsibility to Iñaki Peña and signing Wojciech Szczesny. Nevertheless, it is evident that Ter Stegen will remain the club's top choice once he is available again. Meanwhile, the team will have to adapt, as was the case last season when another injury to the German goalkeeper kept him out for a considerable period.

Ter Stegen suffered a complete tear of the patellar tendon in his right knee and has already undergone surgery. Initially, it was estimated that he would be out for between 7 and 9 months, depending on his recovery, but the timeline for his return could be adjusted. Although initially it was not considered that he would return to play in this 2024/25 season, circumstances could change.

As reported by "Sport", the goalkeeper is undergoing an innovative treatment that could allow him to return earlier than expected. Barça, always at the forefront of sports technology and injury management, is implementing a new plan for his recovery. A few days ago, Rudi Völler, sporting director of the German Football Association, hinted at the possibility of Ter Stegen being available for the national team this season, and now expectations seem to be confirmed.

The goalkeeper is receiving treatment with stem cells led by Dr. Robert Soler, based in Barcelona and recognized as a global pioneer in this field. This procedure, which costs 13,000 euros according to the same sources, has shown excellent results in other similar cases. Among the elite athletes who have undergone this treatment is Ferrao, a former Barça futsal player.

This innovative medical approach significantly accelerates the recovery from the injury, strengthening the damaged tissues and promoting the regeneration of the affected tendon. Additionally, it allows for earlier onset of load and resistance exercises, optimizing the rehabilitation process. Ter Stegen now envisions his return to the pitch with greater optimism.
