Following the departure of Pablo Barrios from the U-21 squad to join the senior team, which lost Zubimendi, Santi Denia has been forced to change his roster due to another absence, that of Yeremay, who had been dealing with knee discomfort since the start of the training camp. In place of the Deportivo forward, Athletic's midfielder Mikel Jauregizar will be called up.

With this change, Denia covers the absence of his captain and starting defensive midfielder, as Barrios' departure left Bajcetic as the only midfielder on the roster, while the U-21 team has more options upfront. In fact, Yeremay was the only outfield player who didn't get minutes in the friendly against England last Friday.

Thus, Mikel Jauregizar attends his first call-up to the U-21 team. The Athletic midfielder had never been summoned by the national team at youth levels, but now he will have the opportunity to debut next Tuesday against Denmark in Albacete. Jauregizar has cemented himself as a key player in Valverde's starting eleven, being essential in the double pivot, usually alongside Ruiz de Galarreta.
