Espanyol is having problems in their forward line. The forwards that arrived during the summer transfer window have not yet reached the desired numbers to meet the club's objectives. Among Cheddira, Véliz, and Cardona, they have only scored one goal in the eleven matches played so far. These numbers are insufficient and must improve if Espanyol aims to stay in the category.

Despite the club's economic difficulties, low investment, and tight salary margins, it seems unlikely that Espanyol will be able to strengthen in the upcoming winter transfer window. However, if they manage to do so, the attack would be one of the priority areas. In the La Grada program, journalist Gonzalo Álvarez, a close friend of RDT, revealed that the current Rayo Vallecano forward would have offered himself to Espanyol and would be interested in returning to Barcelona.

As explained by Gonzalo Álvarez, the forward "is very eager to leave Rayo. He wants to leave and wants to play. He trains morning and afternoon to be ready for the winter transfer window, for when the time comes for a departure. He has let the people at Espanyol know that he would return and yes, he would come forgiving money. Espanyol marked him and he would return with an effort, but it does not depend on him. I believe he will not come due to an economic issue and because Mao Ye does not want him to return."
